Connect Bluesky

A Bluesky connection is one account. Marketing uses it to post, with pictures and video, and to read the numbers of its posts. It is your org's or a brand's. See Connections for how connecting works in general.

Ways to connect

Bluesky is connected with Add a key only: an app password that you make in the account's settings, and the account's handle. There is no developer app to make and no review. The dialog also offers Post by hand instead: you give the account's name, GreenMind prepares each post and opens Bluesky with the text filled in for you to finish it, and nothing is held for the account.

Making an app password

  1. Sign in to Bluesky as the account that will post.
  2. Open App passwords, which is under Settings > Privacy and security, and choose Add App Password.
  3. Name it so you know what it is for, create it, and copy it. Bluesky shows it once.
  4. On the Connections page, choose Add a key for Bluesky. Give the account's Handle (or its DID), paste the app password into Key, token or address, and press Test and save. The password is checked with Bluesky before it is saved.

Use an app password, never the account's own password. An app password can be deleted from the same page at any time without changing the account's password, which is how you revoke it.

Permissions

GreenMind asks for no scopes: an app password carries the permissions Bluesky gives it, and it signs in as the account.

If it goes wrong

  • Bluesky did not accept the handle and app password. One is mistyped, or the app password was deleted. Check the handle's spelling, make a new app password, and Reconnect.
  • Posting is limited. Bluesky limits how many times an account may sign in and how many posts it may write. A post signs in once, so a burst of posts can reach the sign-in limit first.
  • Pictures are refused. Bluesky caps the size of an image, so a large picture has to be made smaller.
