Connect Discord

A Discord connection is one channel, reached through a webhook that you make in that channel's server. Marketing uses it to post messages, with files, to the channel. It is your org's or a brand's. See Connections for how connecting works in general.

Ways to connect

Discord is connected with Add a key only: the channel's webhook address. There is no developer app, no bot to add to your server, and nothing to review. One connection posts to one channel; connect again with another webhook for another channel.

Making the webhook

  1. In Discord, open the server's settings: Server Settings > Integrations > Webhooks. You need the permission to manage webhooks in that server.
  2. Choose New Webhook, give it a name, and choose the channel it should post to.
  3. Choose Copy Webhook URL.
  4. On the Connections page, choose Add a key for Discord, paste the address into Key, token or address, and press Test and save.

Discord's introduction to webhooks has the same steps.

The address is the credential: anyone who holds it can post to the channel. GreenMind seals it when it is saved and never shows it again. Keep it out of chat and documents.

Permissions

Nothing is asked for, and there are no scopes. A webhook can only post to its one channel. Posts made through the connection never notify anyone with an @ mention, whatever their text says.

If it goes wrong

  • That is not a Discord webhook address. The address must be a Discord webhook address, the one Discord's Copy Webhook URL gives, which has discord.com/api/webhooks/ in it. Copy the whole address again.
  • Discord no longer has that webhook. Someone deleted the webhook in Discord. Make a new one and Reconnect.
  • Messages are refused. A message may be up to 2,000 characters, and a file up to 20 MiB by default. Discord also limits how fast a webhook may post.
