The pipeline editor

The editor is where you make a pipeline or change one: its sources, its steps and its outbox. Reach it with New pipeline, or Edit steps on a pipeline's page. Both need an Editor or above.

Starting

A new pipeline starts from one of three places:

  • Start from a pipeline shared in this org: it follows another brand's pipeline from then on. See Sharing.
  • Start from: press Use this on a template.
  • From nothing: press Start empty.

Give it a Name, then press Make the pipeline. It needs at least two steps, and a brand cannot have two pipelines of the same name. It starts Off.

Adding and moving steps

  1. Add a source puts a source in. A pipeline may have more than one.
  2. Each step has Add a step after this, which offers only the steps that can take what that step gives. Choose one and press Add.
  3. The Outbox is one of the steps offered. A pipeline needs exactly one, and nothing comes after it.

Move up, Move down and Remove act on one step. A step removed is bridged: whatever took from it takes from what it took from.

Takes from says which earlier steps feed a step, by the short name each step shows. A step can take from two, so two branches can join again at the outbox. If the kinds of item do not match, the editor says so: "It cannot take what one of those steps gives."

Settings

Each step shows its own settings. A field you leave alone shows the default the step uses. A step with none says "This step has nothing to set."

Some fields ask for something by id or key, such as Collection, AI preset or Finished in the network's app. The field's hint says where to find it.

In a pipeline that follows a shared one, each step says From the base, Changed here or Added here. See Sharing.

The outbox

The outbox says where everything the pipeline made goes.

What happens to what it makes is the choice that matters most:

  • Drafts somebody approves and schedules: the default. The post waits in Posts for somebody to edit, approve and schedule.
  • Posts proposed at a time, for approval: each post is complete, with a time proposed, and waits in the review queue. It needs a budget, and making it live needs somebody who may publish the brand's pipelines.
  • Posts scheduled by itself where allowed, else for approval: gated. See Posting by itself.

The other settings:

  • Where it goes: A post of each item, or The library, for somebody to keep, which makes no post.
  • Channels: where its posts go. Every channel is listed, marked Not connected where the brand has no account, and one with no account is left out of the post until the brand has one.
  • Where it goes on each network: shows when the brand has several accounts on a network, or the network needs telling something. Account can stay on A person chooses for each post. Reddit needs its Subreddit, marked Needed to post here until filled in.
  • Which video of a clip: The best made: captioned, then vertical, The vertical one or The original shape.
  • Finished in the network's app: channels whose posts a person finishes on their phone. See Finishing a post.
  • Trial reel: for Instagram Reels only.

Timing

Timing says when a proposed post would go out. A draft ignores it, as a person schedules it. When is As soon as the spacing allows, At a set time or Between two times, on the Days of the week chosen, in the Time zone you set. Left alone, it is between 17:00 and 21:00 UTC, so set your own time zone.

Nothing is proposed inside Quiet hours or on Days never to post. Whatever the setting, posts are spaced from every other post on the same accounts, whether from a pipeline or by hand.

Budgets

A budget is set on the outbox:

  • Credits a run may spend: a run estimated at more than this is held before it starts. Somebody who may spend presses Allow it over the budget on the run.
  • Credits a month: when the pipeline reaches this, it pauses by itself. It does not start again on its own: somebody presses Resume once the budget is raised or a new month has started.

Anybody who may edit can save a version with a new budget, but only somebody who may spend the brand's credits can make it live. A pipeline that proposes posts needs both budgets. A pipeline that only drafts may have none, and then it has no limit of its own.

The pipelines list shows what each has spent this month against its budget.

Versions

Every save is a new version, and it is not live yet: the pipeline keeps running the version that is live, whether it is on or off. What changed (optional) is your note to the next person, and Save as a new version saves. An assistant connected to the brand can propose a version the same way, and only a person can make it live.

The editor starts from the newest version. When that is not the live one, it says so, and Start from version 3 instead starts from the live one.

The pipeline's page lists its Versions: each one's number, when it was made, where it came from (Written by a person, Proposed by an assistant, From a template, Changed by the optimiser, Given to the brand or From the pipeline it follows), who made it and why, and which is Live. Make live on any other version makes it the one new runs start on, going back or forward; when the newest is not live, the top of the page offers Make version 4 live. Making a version live needs somebody who may edit the brand's pipelines, and more if the version proposes posts or changes the budget. It never turns the pipeline on or off, and a pipeline that is on runs as you from then.

Runs already under way finish on the version they started on, every step of them, including posts waiting for approval or for their time.

If it goes wrong

The editor checks the whole pipeline on saving and says what does not fit. See Pipeline problems.
