Connect Steam sales and wishlist reports
This connection lets Marketing read a game's Steam sales and wishlist numbers, to show them with the brand's other numbers. It uses a Financial Web API key from Steamworks. It is your org's or a brand's. See Connections for how connecting works in general.
It is not the same as the Steam keys used for selling and for player names: those are set up in the publishing console, and Connect Steam describes them. The publisher key a store credential holds is not a financial key, and does not work here.
Ways to connect
Steam's reports are connected with Add a key only. Steam's documentation on its financial service describes what the key can read.
Making the key
- Sign in to Steamworks with an account that can manage your partner group's users and keys.
- Open the groups page, partner.steamgames.com/pub/groups, and create a Financial API Group.
- On the group's page, copy the Financial Web API key. It covers every app of your partner account and no player.
- On the Connections page, choose Add a key for Steam (sales and wishlist reports), paste the key into API key, and press Check and save.
GreenMind checks the key by asking Steam for the dates that have new figures, which only a financial key may ask. No scopes are asked for.
If you restrict the key to certain addresses in Steam, it must allow the address GreenMind's servers call Steam from. Ask GreenMind for it before restricting the key.
After connecting
Say which game it reports on under Numbers, Imports, in Store numbers: choose Use a connection, pick this connection and give the Steam app ID, which starts filled in where the game's Steam store is set up in the publishing console. One key serves every app of your partner account, so give each game's app id its own use.
What is read
Steam's sales for a date, which Steam recalculates later when sales settle, so a date is read again whole, and each day's wishlist adds, deletes, purchases and gifts, with the same by country and by language.
If it goes wrong
- Steam refused the financial key. The key is not a Financial Web API key (a publisher key, for example, is not), or it was deleted. Make a key as above and Reconnect.
- No numbers for a game. The app id given on the use is wrong, or the figures have not arrived yet: Steam's sales settle after the day.
- Steam could not be reached. Steam was down. Test again later.
