Live

Live sends one stream from OBS to a brand's YouTube and Twitch channels, puts their chat in one place, and records the stream so you can cut clips from it afterwards. It goes through the relay, GreenMind's server that takes your stream from OBS and sends it on to each channel.

Live is the one area that does not work straight away: every brand needs GreenMind's approval first, and relay time costs credits.

What it takes

  • Approval from GreenMind for the brand.
  • Credits in the org's balance for relay time.
  • A YouTube or Twitch channel connected and in use for the brand. See Connect YouTube and Connect Twitch.
  • OBS on the computer you stream from. See Setting up OBS.

Asking for approval

Every brand asks, whoever owns it and whatever it streams. Approval is for one brand, so a second brand asks for itself. Everything else in Marketing works while a brand waits. On the Live page you can make a stream, save its details and get links for OBS, but scheduling and going live wait for the answer, and the relay refuses OBS until then.

  1. Open Live.
  2. In Streaming needs approval, say what you will stream and where.
  3. Press Ask for approval.

Asking takes the Admin role by default. Everyone else on the brand sees where it stands. The answer appears on the Live page, so look there:

What the page says What it means
Waiting for staff Your request is with GreenMind staff. There is nothing more to do.
Not approved Staff said no. Any note they left is marked From staff. You can Ask again.
Approval withdrawn Staff took the approval back, and anything the brand had going has ended. You can Ask again.

Once a brand is approved the request disappears from the page, and you can schedule and go live.

What it costs

Relay time is paid for in credits from the org's balance, by the hour. See Credits for how credits work and how to buy them.

  • The clock runs while OBS is sending to the relay. It starts when OBS connects, not when you go live, so a rehearsal counts. It stops when OBS stops sending, so a stream left open with OBS off costs nothing.
  • An hour is held before it starts. To start at all, the org needs credits for a whole hour. The last hour is charged for the time you used, and the rest goes back.
  • The next hour is held shortly before the current one runs out. If it cannot be held, the stream ends on every channel, even if some credits remain. Keep more in the balance than the stream needs.

While you are live the page shows about how many hours of credit are left.

Who can do what

These are the default roles. An org's own roles can divide this differently: see People and roles.

Role On the Live page
Viewer and Commenter Watch the stream's state, the preview, the chat and the numbers.
Editor Also make streams, save their details, reply to and moderate chat, press Clip that, add markers, write producer notes, and make links for OBS.
Admin Also ask for approval, see the server and stream key, schedule, go live, change details while live, end a stream, move it to another brand, and choose the brand's channels.
