Connect TikTok Ads
A TikTok Ads connection is an advertiser's authorization of your app. Marketing uses it to read a brand's ad spend and results, and to manage its ads. It is your org's or a brand's. See Connections for how connecting works in general. TikTok's advertising API is separate from the one used for posting, so this is a different app from TikTok.
Ways to connect
- Connect, through GreenMind's app, where it is open to your org.
- Use your own app: a developer app on TikTok for Business. Start at TikTok for Business, My Apps; TikTok's guide to creating a developer app explains the rest.
There is no key option.
Making your own app
TikTok's screens change from time to time. Follow the dialog and TikTok's documentation where this page and TikTok's screens differ.
- Open the Use your own app dialog for TikTok Ads on the Connections page, and keep it open.
- On TikTok for Business, become a developer if you are not one already, then choose My Apps and create an app. Give it a name and a description.
- Set the app's advertiser redirect URL to the redirect URL from the dialog, copied exactly.
- Choose the permissions the app needs, under its permission settings: reading reports and managing campaigns (the account management, ads management and reporting permissions).
- Submit the app. TikTok has to approve it, and no token is issued before it does.
- When it is approved, copy the App ID and Secret into the dialog (its Client ID and Client secret fields) and press Connect. Sign in as the advertiser and allow it.
Scopes
GreenMind asks for no scopes in the sign-in request. The permissions are the ones you chose on the app in TikTok's portal, in step 4, and the advertiser sees them when authorizing.
After connecting
The brand's ad accounts are listed on Ads, where Read the accounts again asks each network for them. TikTok names an ad account by its advertiser id, a number.
If it goes wrong
- Nothing happens or no token is issued. The app has not been approved yet.
- Redirect mismatch. The advertiser redirect URL on the app differs from the dialog's.
- Calls are refused for permission. The app lacks a permission for what is being done. Add it on the app and authorize again with Reconnect.
- Needs reconnecting. An authorization lasts until the advertiser cancels it, so this means the advertiser ended it or removed the app. Reconnect.
