Tasks

Tasks are what is left to do for the brand: something you wrote down, a step a plan made, or a post that a channel needs you to publish by hand. They are in one list, soonest due first.

Open Tasks in the Plan group of the sidebar. Everybody on the brand can read the list. An Editor or an Admin can add tasks and change their state (see People and roles).

Where tasks come from

  • You write them. Use New task, below.
  • A plan makes them. Starting a plan from a template makes its tasks, each due on its day and given to the milestone it leads to. See Plans. Tasks you add inside a plan appear here too.
  • A channel with no way to post for you leaves one. When a scheduled post is going to a channel that Marketing cannot publish to itself, it makes a task named after the post and the channel (it reads like Post "Lantern patch notes" to the channel's name). The task's notes carry the channel's instructions, the text to post and the titles of the pictures from the library. Its due time is the time the post was scheduled for. See Finishing a post by hand.
  • Other parts of Marketing. A few raise a task when something needs a person, such as a batch of game keys running low (see Keys).

Add a task

Under New task:

  1. Write What to do. This is the only required field.
  2. Add Notes (optional) if there is more to say.
  3. Pick Due (optional) if it has a day.
  4. Choose who it is For (optional). The menu starts at Nobody yet and lists the people who can see the brand. A task can only be given to somebody who can see the brand.
  5. Press Add the task.

Work through the list

The control above the list, Which tasks to show, switches between To do, Done and Set aside. Each task shows its title, its notes, when it is due and who it is for.

  • Done moves a task to Done.
  • Set aside moves it to Set aside. Use it for a task nobody will do, such as a post to a channel you have decided to skip, or a plan step that does not apply.
  • Reopen brings a task from either list back to To do.

The tasks are not deleted by any of these, so you can always find them again.

Tasks that close by themselves

A task left by a hand-posted channel is marked Done when you finish the post as posted (see Finishing a post by hand). If you cancel the post or move it to another day, the old task is set aside and the new schedule makes a fresh one. You do not need to tidy up after either.

If something does not work

  • A task you expected is not in the list. Check the other two states, Done and Set aside.
  • You cannot add or finish tasks. Your role on the brand is Viewer or Commenter.
  • The person you want is not in the menu. They cannot see the brand yet. Add them under People and roles first.
