Connect Reddit Ads
A Reddit Ads connection is a Reddit account that can reach an ad account. Marketing uses it to read a brand's ad spend and results, and to manage its ads. It is your org's or a brand's. See Connections for how connecting works in general. It is separate from Reddit, which posts.
Ways to connect
- Connect, through GreenMind's app, where it is open to your org.
- Use your own app: a web app registered with Reddit. Start at Reddit's apps page; Reddit's OAuth2 documentation explains the sign-in. Reddit's Ads API terms cover the ads side.
There is no key option.
Before you start
Where Reddit registers apps for its Ads API, and how it approves access to it, have been changing. Check Reddit's current ads and developer documentation before you start; this page describes only what GreenMind needs from the app. If Reddit's ads developer portal and the apps page above differ, use the one Reddit's documentation names.
Making your own app
- Open the Use your own app dialog for Reddit Ads on the Connections page, and keep it open.
- Register a web app with Reddit, signed in as the account that will connect.
- Set its redirect URI to the redirect URL from the dialog, copied exactly.
- Copy the app's client id and secret into the dialog and press Connect. Sign in to Reddit and allow it.
Scopes
identity adsread adsedit
| Use | Scopes |
|---|---|
| Read ads | identity, adsread |
| Manage ads | identity, adsread, adsedit |
The scopes are asked in the sign-in request. If Reddit's app settings list the scopes an app may use, allow these. The Use your own app dialog lists the reading scopes; Reconnect asks for adsedit as well, which managing ads needs.
After connecting
The brand's ad accounts are listed on Ads, where Read the accounts again asks each network for them. Reddit's Ads API names an ad account with an id that begins a2_ (or t2_ for older accounts).
If it goes wrong
- Invalid redirect URI. The redirect uri on the app differs from the dialog's.
- A scope is refused. The app is not allowed ads access. Check Reddit's current rules.
- Needs reconnecting. Reddit no longer accepts the token. Reconnect.
