Connect TikTok

A TikTok connection is one creator account. Marketing uses it to post videos and photos and to read their numbers. It is your org's or a brand's. See Connections for how connecting works in general. This page is about TikTok's accounts for posting; for ads see Connect TikTok Ads.

Ways to connect

  • Connect, through GreenMind's app, where it is open to your org.

  • Use your own app: an app in TikTok for Developers. Start at TikTok's apps page; TikTok's Content Posting API guide explains the rest.

  • Post by hand instead, at the foot of the Use your own app dialog: you give the account's name, GreenMind prepares each post and opens TikTok Studio for you to finish it, and nothing is held for the account.

There is no key option.

Making your own app

TikTok's screens change from time to time. Follow the dialog and TikTok's documentation where this page and TikTok's screens differ.

  1. Open the Use your own app dialog for TikTok on the Connections page, and keep it open.
  2. In TikTok for Developers, create an app. Fill in its basic information: icon, name, category, description, and the addresses of your terms, privacy policy and website.
  3. TikTok requires those addresses to be verified. Under the app's URL properties, verify your domain with the DNS record TikTok gives you.
  4. Add the products. Add Login Kit and Content Posting API. In Content Posting API, switch on Direct Post.
  5. Add the redirect URL. In Login Kit, under Web, add the redirect URL from the dialog as a redirect URI, copied exactly.
  6. Add the scopes listed below to the app.
  7. Copy the app's client key and client secret into the dialog (its Client ID and Client secret fields) and press Connect. Sign in to TikTok and allow it.
  8. If you post photos, TikTok fetches each one from the address it is served from, and accepts that only from a domain or URL prefix you have verified under URL properties. Verify that one too.

Review and the audit

TikTok reviews apps, and separately audits an app's use of the Content Posting API; its documentation describes both. Until the audit passes, anything an app posts directly is private. Until then GreenMind sends posts to the creator's TikTok inbox to finish in TikTok. Once your app has passed the audit, tick My app has passed TikTok's Content Posting audit in the Use your own app dialog when you connect, and posts go out directly. Reconnect keeps the setting as it was, so for a connection already made, choose Use your own app again with the box ticked. That makes a second connection; Disconnect the first.

If it goes wrong

  • Redirect URI mismatch, or the sign-in fails. The redirect URI on Login Kit differs from the dialog's, or the app has not been approved for the use you are trying.
  • Posts stay private. The audit has not passed. See above.
  • A photo is not accepted. Its address's domain or URL prefix is not verified under URL properties.
  • Posting is slow or refused. TikTok limits how many posts an account can start: a few a minute and about 15 a day.
