Setting up a stream

A stream is one broadcast: what it says, which channels it goes out on, and its own stream key for OBS. You can prepare all of it ahead of time. Nothing reaches YouTube or Twitch until you go live or schedule.

Choosing channels for the brand

This is done once, by an Admin.

  1. Connect the channel on the Connections page. See Connect YouTube or Connect Twitch.
  2. Open Live, then Channels in the page's Setup area.
  3. Press Use it on the channel. It now says In use. Stop using takes it back out.

A channel another brand lends this one shows as Shared, with nothing to press here. Turn it on for a single stream instead. See Sharing.

Making a stream

Open Live, write a title and press Make stream. Once the brand has streams, use New stream for the next one. Editors can do this.

A band can start from a show: Go live on the show in Ensemblis opens this page with the show's name as the title and a description listing its setlist, ready for Make stream. Start from nothing clears that description.

What the stream says

All of this is in Stream details. It is one set of words for every channel, plus each channel's own settings.

  • Title goes to every channel.
  • Description shows under the stream on YouTube. Twitch shows no description.
  • Tags: up to ten, letters and numbers only, each at most 25 characters.
  • Go live on has a switch for each channel. On a new stream the brand's own channels start on, and shared ones start off, because a shared channel is another brand's audience.

YouTube's settings

  • Who can watch: Everyone, Anyone with the link or Only the channel. It starts where this brand last went out on that channel, and at Only the channel the first time. So your first stream on a channel is private until you change this.
  • Made for children: YouTube asks every channel to say. Once the broadcast exists this cannot be changed from here.

If you choose wider than a broadcast already is, the page asks you to tick Yes, let more people watch this stream before it will go through.

Twitch's settings

Category: search Twitch's categories and pick one.

Saving without going live

Press Save. It keeps your work and touches nothing on YouTube or Twitch, so you can prepare a stream with nobody seeing it. Editors can save, so one person can prepare a stream and an Admin can take it live. Going live saves as well, so there is no second step to forget.

If two people have the page open and one saves first, the other is told Someone else changed this. Reload to see it.

Scheduling

Scheduling is optional. It makes the YouTube page ahead of time so you can share the link. It needs an approved brand and, by default, the Admin role. A stream does not start by itself: on the day, somebody still starts OBS and goes live.

  1. Turn on Schedule for later.
  2. Choose the Date and Time.
  3. Choose a Thumbnail from the library if you want one. It goes to YouTube only, and the field only shows while scheduling is on.
  4. Press Save and make the YouTube page.

Then:

  • Share this gives you the link. Check Who can watch first: the link is only as open as that setting.
  • Draft a post starts a post with the title and link. See Posts.
  • The stream is on your Calendar.
  • Update YouTube sends later changes. Until you press it, they stay on this page.
  • Cancel the schedule takes the date away and removes the broadcast made for it.

Twitch has no page for this. It goes out when you go live.

If you go live before the time, the page says how many minutes early you are. If the time passes by more than an hour and the stream never started, the page warns you to choose a new time or cancel.

Using a broadcast from YouTube Studio

If you already made an upcoming broadcast in YouTube Studio, you can use it instead of making a new one.

  1. With Schedule for later on, press Use one you made in YouTube Studio.
  2. Press Use this on the broadcast.

The stream takes the broadcast's title and description. Who can watch stays YouTube Studio's to change, and the page links there. If you cancel, GreenMind lets go of the broadcast and does not delete it.
